Hello friends, welcome to the eighth week of school. With Halloween coming up in a couple of weeks, we hope you all are pumped to show off your costumes in the upcoming events. Midterms are mostly over for some but if you still writing, good luck! Whether you are done with midterms or not, here are some events to spend some time on.

1) HackEd Beta Ticket sales
WHO: Anyone new and interested in hackathons
WHEN: October 15th 2020 ~ October 26th 2020

WHAT: HackEd Beta Ticket sales are starting on Thursday!!! Beta is our intro event for people who are new to hackathons! A ticket to the hackathon is only $5 and we'll even be sending all our Edmonton participants some promotional swag! Keep your eyes on Thursday and you will be able to pick up your tickets while they last.
2) Startup Week
WHEN: This week (October 19 - October 23, 2020)
WHAT: Startup Week is a Startup Edmonton initiative full of keynotes, presentations and events to celebrate the startup scene in Edmonton.
This year, we will celebrate Edmonton Startup Week virtually, for five days of workshops, socials, and events celebrating the diversity of our startup community, building connections and discovering new opportunities to be part of the culture of innovation in Edmonton.
3) Breaking into Data Science - The How's and Why's
WHEN: Wednesday October 21st from 2:00-3:00

WHAT: Now more than ever, organizations of all sizes — from start-ups to large-scale corporations — are looking at how they can benefit by using machine learning and data science.
However, as your business or organization dives into these areas, you likely have questions. You could be wondering, “How do I start?”, “How do I measure success?”, or, “Who do I need to add to my team?”
In this introductory session, the data science team at Cybera will provide you with an overview into data science, talk about how you can apply it in your area of expertise, share resources that you can leverage, and discuss what you may need to start your own data science project. We’ll also share success stories from Alberta organizations currently using data science and provide “real world” examples of how this practice can be applied.
4) Launch Party

WHAT: Join us for the eleventh annual edition of Launch Party, Edmonton Startup Week’s flagship event that celebrates and showcases the hottest startups in town. Launch Party showcases our city's brightest entrepreneurs, their products, and celebrates everything that our startup community has to offer.
5) EA’s Next-Gen Talent Conference
WHO: Students and Graduates looking for internships
WHEN: October 23rd 2020

WHAT: Join us for our first-ever, all-day conference to connect with the next-generation of talent. Hear from our subject matter experts and leaders in the industry - all in your browser and on demand. The event will give insight into Electronic Arts’ work, culture, and impact. Plus, learn more about our internship and University graduate programs and explore career development resources. Breakout Tracks include Work & Culture, Discipline-based Career Pathing, Intern & University Grad Panel, and EA’s Intern 101.
6) ESS Costume Contest
WHO: Anyone who wants to dress up for halloween or for fun
WHEN: October 25th 2020 - October 31st 2020

WHAT: For one week, a theme is announced every day. Participants gather GEER Yeer points for their discipline by submitting a google form containing their information. Points will be awarded to the best costumes. The themes are:
- Day 1 (Oct 25th): Spooky
- Day 2 (Oct 26th): Animals
- Day 3 (Oct 27th): Shirt Day (How many shirts can you fit on your body?)
- Day 4 (Oct 28th): Theme Day (Dress according to your club theme)
- Day 5 (Oct 29th): Characters (Movie/Shows)
- Day 6 (Oct 30th): Black tie
- Day 7 (Oct 31st): Best Halloween Costume
7) TELUS In Their Shoes – Women* in STEM Speed-mentoring Event

8) Vanderblit Graduate Engineering Information Session
WHO: Students looking for summer reasearch or graduate programs
WHEN: November 2nd @ 12:00PM - 1:00PM
WHAT: Vanderblit University is hosting an information session to promote their summer research and graduate programs.
Vanderblit offers a variety of fully funded Ph.D programs, as well as several new Masters programs. These new programs include: Cyber-Physical Systems, Risk, Reliability and Resiliance, and Engineering Management.
If you're interested in any of these topics and would like to purse research, graduate, or post graduate studies, this event is for you.
